Young Dreamers’ Bookstore Facilitates Early Literacy Convening with Philadelphia Youth Basketball to Inspire Young Readers

We are proud to formally announce our partnership with Philadelphia Youth Basketball (PYB)!

One of the most rewarding aspects of owning a bookstore is connecting—and reconnecting—with thoughtful and inspiring people who love reading. Last week, The Young Dreamers' Bookstore traveled to Philadelphia to facilitate a PYB Early Literacy Convening. During the convening, we engaged in deep reflection and thoughtful dialogue about our childhood experiences with reading, all with the goal of designing a transformative program that will inspire children to develop a lifelong love of reading.

We left the convening energized and filled with excitement about the grand possibilities that can grow from this program.

What made this experience especially meaningful was the opportunity to work alongside my mentor and friend, Bro. Kenny Holdsman. For the past 25 years, Kenny and I have spent time discussing everything from social justice in education to building a purposeful life. It was also deeply fulfilling to help develop an early reading program for the children of my hometown—a powerful reminder of why we do this work.

It was an honor to dream out loud with a room full of caring adults committed to helping children pursue their dreams.

A special shoutout to Randy Butler, whose behind-the-scenes work was instrumental in the success of this convening. Lastly, we extend our heartfelt thanks to the entire PYB leadership and staff who took time out of their busy schedules to participate in this important gathering.

Salute! We look forward to advancing this vital work with the PYB team.
